As students in this class, you have a paid a lab fee that allows you to use the following tools in UB’s Digital Design Studio:
- Guillomax guillotine cutter: This paper cutter is specifically designed to cut large quantities of paper at once (15 or more sheets at a time). You may find it helpful for trimming the edge of a text block that has already been sewn or for cutting a stack of paper down to the size you need for a book project.
- Mat cutter: This wall-mounted mat cutter will work well for quickly and easily cutting book board, especially if you need to get several sheets down.
- Rotary cutter: This large format rotary cutter will work well for cutting a single sheet of paper at a time.
- Color and large format printers: If you need to print something in color or on a sheet larger than 8.5×11, you will want to check out these printers. You’ll bring in a PDF or InDesign file and the lab assistants will do the printing for you. You will pay per page, but the quality is good.
NOTE: Because you do not pay the full $65 lab fee for this course, you are expected to limit your use of the lab to the tools listed above. That means you do not have access to the computers/design software and small black and white printer.
