As you may have heard by now, we received a grant for Summer 2013 to publish and hand bind a collection of writing from the students of the University of Baltimore (UB) MFA program, titled Plorkology: Poems, Stories, and Essays.
As the MFA program has long included the study of publishing, and more explicitly, the study of hand bound books, this is an opportunity to extend our existing creative efforts. While the edition will be limited, these handmade books are unique and generate interest and buzz. We hope to display and sell them at venues such as the Baltimore Book Festival and the AWP Conference.
The project kicked off in May, and since then, we’ve been busy collecting submissions, editing, designing, printing, and binding the first ever anthology of UB MFA student writing under the newly minted Plork Press in an edition of 150.
Currently, we’re in the process of printing the text blocks and prepping the covers. Within the next week or so, we’ll begin sewing the anthology, with plans to complete the edition at the end of September.
