Hi, students! I hope you’re all having a lovely week and making good progress on your final projects. I wanted to share something I discovered on a recent trip to Chicago with you, as I think it connects well to this final assignment and may offer you some inspiration.

It is an exhibit called “One Book, Many Interpretations,” and it gathered together a decade’s worth of Chicago’s One Book books and invited book artists to create unique handbound editions of those books (how many times can I use book in this sentence?).

What’s great about this exhibit is that it shows how book artists have dealt with bringing form and content together into concept, bringing the words inside outside. Some messed with binding style and worked to push the form to a new place, some worked with “illustrating” (using that term loosely) the cover so that while the book was classically bound, it was somehow expressing the content.
Anyway, here’s a link to the PDF exhibit guide: http://www.chipublib.org/dir_documents/obmicatalog.pdf
You should definitely take a moment to check it out. There’s amazing work there!
